That door's as good as gone! [With that okay, Rita's response is to immediately start casting.

A fire spell, of course.]

[ Always with the fire spells. For a second, he just watches, then, hey, pulling her out of her stance. ]

Wait, you shouldn't use fire- You could set the rest of the room of fire if you do.

[Because fire spells are awesome. Rita's far less worried and scowls when he pulls her.]

What are you doing? You have a water rune--just put it out if a fire starts!

[ He gives her a sceptical look, but lets go of her. He hopes he can just put it out with a water rune... He might have to use it to heal them instead. ]

Fine... Just be careful with your spells.

Who do you think you're talking to? [She can control her own spells--or so she'd like to claim. She returns to her casting stance, muttering the chant and then casting a fireball at the door.]

[ The ever-confident Rita. Tyr smiles a little at that and steps back to give her space. He does take a defensive stance to make a shield if there's shrapnel, though. He knows how her spells go.

And since there's no creepy portrait to blow out her fireball, the spell hits, creating a splintery, charred hole in the wooden door. A few little embers flicker around the edges, and after a second, they become the only source of light as the candles' flames and overhead light go out. ]

[She's not looking and so misses the smile, or else she might've felt a little less agitated. Either way, she gasps when the lights go out, the feeble light of the embers not enough to see properly in the near pitch-black.] Hey, the lights!

... [ Tyr actually has no explanation for how this could happen... Instead, he just takes a few cautious, slow steps closer towards her. As promising as the possible way out is, it obviously doesn't lead outside - they'd be able to see out if it did, right? ]

Do you have anything to light?

[And neither does Rita--sure, the candles being blown out wasn't so surprising, but the rest of the lights?

A part of her is relieved that Tyr's still there. Not that she'd be afraid that he'd disappear while she couldn't see him or anything, but...]

Light a match or something? I don't think so...

Mm... [ He tries to think, looking around in the darkness (though he can't even see the little embers from her blast anymore).

The darkness feels more imposing when they're quiet, so he continues: ] We might have to just retrace our steps... All the lights in the house can't be out.

Dammit...if we had a flashlight... [But regretting won't help them get out, so she reaches out for Tyr, waving her hand around to try and find him.] Let's just hurry it up, okay?

Right... [ Tyr still feels a little careless for not bringing one when she mentions it. He was meant to help her, so he should be more prepared!

Her fingertips brush against his cloak, and a second later he reaches to hold her hand again. This would be the only way they could stay together unless they both just grabbed and followed the rope, and he knows she wouldn't want to do that. ]

Do you want to try that door? Since you broke it open already...

[Rita thinks he was surprisingly prepared with the rope, but considering how that turned out, she doubts a flashlight would really help them all that much.

In any case, she squeezes his hand as soon as he grabs hers.] If we're gonna retrace our steps, that's the way we'd have to go, anyway.

[ He smiles just a bit as he squeezes her hand back. ] You're right... [ He pulls at the rope and starts guiding them. ] Hopefully the lights are back in one of the other rooms...

[Even if she could see it, Rita doesn't particularly feel like smiling, though she keeps her grip on his hand as she moves with him.] They'd better be on, or I'll light up some of that furniture.

I wouldn't stop you if you chose to do that... [ He was planning to put out any fires she caused anyway. If they could burn enough for a torch, that'd work for him. ]

Obviously. We can't just walk blind through here. We could run into anything... [And it makes her think about she won't be able to see those portraits now...With an added note of urgency, she continues.] Let's find a chair or something we can smash up!

[ Tyr just assumes she's scared of falling into a trap. And honestly, he is, too, considering the rope would probably lead them right to one.

He stops and turns...in the general directions of the furniture he thinks in the room is. ]

There's stuff in here somewhere. Let's just try to find it before he try leaving.

Yeah... [There's that, too. She definitely doesn't want to follow the rope any longer.

It'd be easier to search if she let go of his hand, but...It's not like she really needs both of her hands. So she keeps her grip and stretches out her other arm, searching.]

[ He does the same thing. For himself, he really doesn't want to let go of her hand. They could accidentally cast at each other if they're not careful.

After a short time, he realises he could search a wider area by whipping the rope across the floor. He makes it looser and looser as he walks, until he thinks a good portion is on the ground (which about to the end of the rope), and swings it across the floor to try to hit something that's not the wall. ]

[And she's still worried that they could get permanently separated because of the curse.

Since she can't see what he's doing, the movements and noises make her cautious. There's a wary tone to her voice as she fumbles around.] What are you doing over there...?

I'm trying to see if I can hit the chairs with the rope. [ He says it matter-of-factly, though he understands her worry. ] I thought it would be easier than just groping around.

[That makes her a little relieved--it's nothing attacking them--but she's still skeptical.] I guess, but...You can't even tell what it's hitting.

I'll have a little idea, though. It'll feel different hitting the leg of a chair instead of part of the wall.

So you're some kind of expert at whipping furniture? [All the skepticism...but she doesn't really argue against it otherwise, and stops searching to let him go at it.]
