[Video] The Rhyme is a lie

[The communicator flickers on to focus on Rita, who looks tired and a bit spaced-out. All the excitement of coming to the City catching up with her, perhaps?]

Hey, did someone start growing a flower garden in here or something? All I can smell are roses, and they're giving me a headache.

[She sleepily rubs at her eyes then pauses, mildly confused. She inspects her hand, and one might see rose-red rings on her fingers.]

Huh? Is there something...I never had allergies to anything before--wait, is something burning?

[Of course, the device can't exactly transmit the smell, but smoke is starting to waft around the room. Rita frantically starts rummaging around and looking for the source.]

Where is this coming from? A-ow, that kind of...

[Suddenly, her hands burst into flames. She's momentarily stunned at her spontaneous combustion but recovers enough to do something about it, grabbing a blanket and smothering out the flames. She's pretty alert now, at least.]

What the hell just happened?! Is this one of those...w-wait!

[Another tendril of smoke starts to creep up. Rita wastes no time now, a blue magic circle appearing at her feet as she casts a spell.]

O caprice of innocent waters...Champagne!

[The spring of water forms beneath her feet, bubbling forth a small stream that halts the smoke. Rita sighs shakily, about to turn back to her device, when the smoke returns once again.]

C-come on! Stop it, already!

[OOC: Will be backtagging when I get in from work AGAIN sob. Anyway, her nursery rhyme is Ring Around the Rosy, which this handy site going around suggests refers to the bubonic plague. Too bad the City doesn't feel like waiting to cremate you...]

I'm with Yuri and Judith in a house on the beach. That's not too far, is it?

Oh! I see- no, it isn't. And luckily a friend of mine lives there as well, so I shan't have trouble finding it.

[OOC: Whoo~ Also wow, it's like 3:30am already. I think I'll be off to bed and pick it back up tomorrow...er, later today.]

[After walking over to the beach house, walking inside and being led upstairs to where Rita most likely was, she called around, hoping to find her quickly]

Rita? It's me, Natalia.

[Rita has been finding herself with little to do, considering she's not about to take any affected skin out of the water and risk burning again, so she's quite relieved to hear Natalia's voice beyond the door.]

I'm in the--uh, bathroom. You can come in.

[Following the sound of the voice, Natalia comes up to a door and gives it a tentative, polite knock - a courtesy rather than asking for permission - before entering, peeking into the door]

Rita?

[Rita shakes her head when she hears the knock; didn't she just say to come in? Oh well, she's pretty used to Estelle being like that too. She almost raises her hand to greet her new friend, but thinks better of it.]

Hi, Natalia. Uh, thanks for coming.

[She must be quite a sight, huddled down in a bathtub full of water with all her clothes on. Just thinking about the situation makes her face heat up.]

There's no need to thank me, really.

[Natalia gives a friendly smile before kneeling next to the tub, not caring if she got wet or anything.]

Now, where did you get burned?

[Already, Rita's starting to get flustered and doubtful, fidgeting worriedly.]

J-just my hands, really...well, maybe my feet too.

[She spreads her palms out, still under the surface of the water, to reveal angry red rashes and slightly scorched skin.]

Hey, a-are you sure this is really such a good idea? I mean, what if it's contagious or something?

[She peers into the water to see the rashes- Natalia's never seen anything like it! She only hopes that her healing artes can have some.]

Well, if it's the product of a curse...perhaps I'm safe? I seem to be omitted from the curse today, after all.

[She thinks about it only for a split second, not at all worried!]

If it is contagious, we'll simply have to make our way to the hospital, then.

[Closing her eyes, she holds her hand over the water, whispers the incantation, and the fonic glyph appears below her. The spell is soon cast, and she releases a breath. Did it work?]

[Rita's still not so sure--she doesn't want Natalia to end up the same way, not to mention the fact that they'd probably never make it to a hospital unless someone carried them around in a vat of water. Before she can voice any of these concerns though, Natalia's already at work so she just holds her breath for a second. Once the magic glow disappears, Rita peers eagerly at her hands. The rashes, unfortunately, remain but the burns are completely gone as if they were never there.]

It looks like I'll have to wait until midnight for these to go away--but that does feel better! Thanks, Natalia.

Oh, it's quite all right. I only wish I could heal the entire thing.

[A sigh, but she smiles. She knows better than anyone that you had to wait out the effects of a curse]

Shall I wait with you?

It's all right. It's not like this is something normal, so I doubt you could get rid of it normally.

Y-you don't have to do that. Uh, don't you have other things to do?

[Fidgeting again. She does want Natalia to stay, probably, but can't quite express it.]

[Natalia claps her hands together, leaning forward a little more]

Not at all, actually! The restaurant shall be fine without me. Leon just returned, thankfully. So I've the entire day to spend with you.

[Happiness flutters inside her, or maybe nervousness, but at least she won't have to sit here by herself.]

Well...if you're sure, it'd be nice to have you around.

[Suddenly, she realizes that there are a lot of things she'd love to talk to Natalia about. Her world, her friends, but she'd start with-]

So, what about that arte you used? We have artes in my world too, but I think yours was a bit different.

You have artes in your world as well? How every intriguing!

[She thinks about fonons and artes for a bit- if only Jade were around to explain them better]

My artes are powered by fonons, essentially. That is how they are performed in my world.

[She doesn't know what fonons are, though she wonders if it's their term for aer and whether they've had similar problems.]

Fonons? Is that...

[Hesitating, she's not quite sure exactly how to word it. Natalia won't know what Rita's talking about if she just says 'aer', but she wants to know if they're the same thing.]

Hm...is it like a substance that composes everything, even though you can't usually see it?

Yes, they can't be seen with the naked eye unless in large concentrations.

[Natalia tilts her head, rather impressed]

You're very intuitive.

So my hunch was correct...but I wonder if that means...

[Rita mumbles to herself a little, before waving off the compliment with minor embarrassment.]

Oh, it's not just that. I think our own artes may be powered by the same thing, only we call it aer.

Oh! That is quite the possibility, yes. I'm afraid I'm not very adept in the area of fonons, however, but if you've any more questions, I'll certainly answer to the best of my ability.

[Natalia finds it a little exciting that their worlds may share a lot of features!]

[Rita's excited about it herself, but refrains from asking Natalia about the specifics she's really interested in--instead, she'd rather get the most burning question off her mind]

Well, have your fonons ever...caused any major problems? Like too dense portions affecting organisms or...creating giant planet-eating monsters?

[She says the last part in a rush, hoping it doesn't sound too weird.]
