Well, I can't quite help it. There is also a bakery near our restaurant, so it's also rather convenient, I thought.

[She starts toward the center of the City, where the bakery and her restaurant is located]

We can eat lunch at your place and then go for dessert! I like that idea.

The size of this city is still amazing...Which building is the restaurant?

[She points to a small building on the other side of the Square- they pass the fountain, now, nearing it.]

The Hymns of Lorelei- it's been standing for about two years, now. We've a wonderful cook, too. Is there anything you'd like to have for lunch?

[Rita's gaze follows that direction and spies it out. It's an impressive-looking little place.]

As long as there's no fish in it, I'll try just about anything you have. Is there any kind of specialty you'd recommend?

No fish? I take it you don't like it- very well, then. That can most certainly be arranged. I rather like the macaroni and cheese myself.

Yes, Lorelei is the aggregate sentience of the Seventh Fonon. Not a person, really.

I don't know how anyone could eat seafood. The smell is bad enough, but the taste and the sliminess...it's just disgusting! As for the macaroni and cheese--that's something we never made. Let's try it, then.

Aggregrate sentience...like a Spirit, maybe. But what's this Seventh Fonon? Do you number every single one?

That is very true. I'm not very fond of octopus, myself. But I do rather enjoy cheese- I'm sure you'll enjoy this dish.

[Puts a hand to her cheek in thought. She at least had the basic understanding of fonons]

Well, there are various types of fonons. The First Fonons are that of darkness, the Second of earth, the Third of wind, the Fourth of water, the Fifth of fire, the Sixth of light, and the Seventh of sound.

[She makes a grossed-out face at the very mention of octopus. Cheese sounds just fine, though.]

Oh, so each type of fonon belongs to a particular element, and fonons from each one form a sentient being with powers over that element. Is that right?

Yes! My, Rita- you really are quite intelligent.

[Smiles. Rita's so smart!]

Um...well...part of it was guesswork based on beings in my own world. We call them Spirits.

Spirits?

[She tilts her head in confusion, not minding the reddening cheeks one bit]

What did they do?

That's the name we gave them. Like your sentient fonons, there is a Spirit for every element, and they have control over their respective domains. The most powerful Spirits preside over the four elements of water, earth, air, and fire, but there are hundreds--thousands, even--of other Spirits, too. Most importantly, they keep the aer in our world under control so it doesn't cause harm anymore.

I see- my, we certainly don't have that many. Still, though- you must be quite grateful to these Spirits.

[Opens the door for Rita]

[As she walks in, she trails off, taking in the atmosphere and--noticing the waiters' unique outfits.]

Well, we all pitched in for the interior design- and the emperor of a neighboring country to my own designed the uniforms.

A-are you serious that an emperor designed those? What kind of empire would a guy like that run?

Well... he's a rather interesting man. A very good emperor, however.
