[The shuffle of papers, the scribbling of a pencil in the background--someone's busy. But the distraction doesn't last long as Rita takes note of the date-]

Wait a minute--September?! How the hell is it--it's almost October again...

That's right. And...We can all try to fix whatever it is. [ Tyr thinks this is a good system to have, as long as they don't misuse it in a curse. ]

If fixing it is even possible. [Cynicism aside, she does like the system. It's better than waiting to find out by scrolling the network.]

It will be. No matter what happens, there will be some way to fix it... [ Even if it's too late by then... He wonders if anything would have been done if they had this system before. ]

That's optimistic... [She doesn't believe it would have changed everything, but...Maybe it could have prevented some things.]

It's reasonable. We're not so hopeless that we can't do something. It might still be bad, but... [ It'd be something. ]

We know it's going to be bad, but--we're not just giving up. [Something is better than nothing, even for a pessimist like Rita. They aren't facing the month completely unprepared.]

[ They couldn't. Not after everything that happened last year. ] That's right. We can't just lay down and take whatever comes at us.

[After everything, they can't just sit and let the City do whatever it pleases with them. Even if there's not much they can do, they won't do nothing at all.] Yeah. I will not let Estelle get hurt this time.

[ Me eitheeer. Somehow it's worse when they're trying to be cautious... ]

[ His eyes narrow when she mentions Estelle. Even if he thought it would be less lonely for Rita, she had more to worry about with her in the City. ] ...I'll help you keep her safe. Keep all our friends safe...

[Makes it even ~~better~~ worse when they fail...]

[She can't really express how much she missed her friend, but for Estelle to return right before October comes up...She's so worried. Rita looks up at Tyr, knowing he'd help but grateful to hear it anyway.] I know...We will. I- [She's relieved to have him, someone she feels she can count on-] ...Thanks.

[ It hurts more. :< ~~Definitely better~~ ]

[ He wonders what else she would have said if she continued, but he just took the thanks. ] You, too... I'm glad we can do this together... [ Someone to rely on. ]

[They fall harder. ~~Much better~~]

[She's not sure where she was going with it exactly, anyway. For now, she just accepts his support gratefully.] Yeah...It isn't really the kind of thing we could do alone. [And somehow, it's easy to admit that to Tyr.]

[ It takes more to come back. ~~It's sad I'm thinking of h/c already.~~ ]

[ He nods. It really isn't something either of them could handle alone, and even if they could, this was also to protect each other. ] Yeah... We can't take the whole City on our own, but at least if we have support... It'll be easier.

[She certainly agrees. There's no way either if them handle it alone phsyically--and mentally too, really--and she wouldn't want to be alone, anyway.] Yeah. It's just like what we promised before--you know, that we'd look out for each other.

... Right, just like that... [ He almost forgot they made that promise. It seems pointless when they'd do it anyway. Maybe it was just good for remembering to let themselves depend on each other in the end. He goes silent after that, mind wandering. ]

[It's not looking up for them... ~~mmm~~~]

[Rita sort of forgot about the promise itself, but not that they were looking out for each other, at least--that was the important part, even though she was glad to make the promise, too.

Now that it's quiet, Rita finds she feels a bit better. Not a lot, not with October still coming up with who-knows-what in store for them, but still...She hadn't wanted to talk about any of this to Estelle and worry her friend, and as one of the only other people she really trusts, Tyr got an earful of her worries instead.] Hey...Thanks.

[ Not. At. All. ~~Delicious canon h/c...~~ ]

[ He doesn't mind hearing her worries. Really, sometimes he feels like she's one of the only people that listens to him, and when it's something they're both worried about...it's nice to have someone who will be serious and cautious with him.

Despite this, he doesn't really know what exactly she's thanking him for. ] It's not a problem... You're my best friend... [ So he'd always want to ally with her. ]

[Rita's not really sure either, but she's just...grateful he's there. And knowing now that he's also worried, she wants to try and help him, too. Since they are friends...

Best friends, even. She hadn't really thought about that before, but--they are.] Uh...Y-you too. [And she squeezes his hand again, just because.]

[ They try so hard... ~~It is~~~ ]

[ He squeezes hers back for the same lack of reason. There's not really an end to how grateful he is to have her as a friend and have her there with him. The thought makes him smile a bit. They're best friends and they'll help each other. There's nothing else Tyr could want than that at this point. ]

[Try hard and fail hard...]

[And while she's not so naive to think that just being friends will protect them against everything, it is a bit relieving. Maybe...more than a bit, too. She's grateful to have him, and she'll do what she can to stop anything from happening to him.]

[ Yes... They can only fall hard. ]

[ And he'll do the same. He knows he can't save her if it ever came to that, but...He'll definitely try to make sure she's as happy and safe as she can be. It's hard to keep any distance when thinking like that. ]

[And we look forward to it~]

[That's about the best they can do, after all. Sticking together is better--mostly so they can help each other, but also just because it's...Well, it's nice when they're not cursed.

First, though, comes the rune and the sleeping spell. ]

[ Oh, so so much. >:3 ]

[ And those spells will help them if either of them (or anyone else) ever is cursed and needs to be taken down. They're nearly to the city proper now, so soon enough they'll have the rune, at least, taken care of.

Maybe before she goes back to work, they can enjoy each other's company a little more. Just to calm themselves. ]

[Which is only inevitable, since it's how the City works...So they'll be prepared. She'd like to get it done quickly, but maybe...] Hey, uh--is there anywhere else you want to go? I mean, while we're here...

[ It was like she read his mind. ] Do you want to run some errands with me? [ Or...he could think of something better. Errands just seemed like a good distraction. ]
