Well, that was pointless. What idiot decided to send me home, and then bring me right back after a day?

[Idiot, city, whatever it was that made the decision. In any case, Rita sighs out of annoyance--primarily due to the disorientation from returning and regaining her memories--and then continues with a simple-]

So I'm back, anyway.

[ooc: Hiatus over! As mentioned by Rita, only one day went by for her while she was gone from the City for the month.]

[She might sort of catch it in his words, but doesn't know what to say besides continuing.] I don't know about nice, exactly...The experiment I was conducting blew up.

[stargathering]

[ The tone is gone when he continues anyway, since the thought of it blowing up on her makes him feel a little awkward. ] Maybe being away for so long did make you a little rusty, then...

[ The door to his closet clicks shut, followed by the door to his room. He actually is carrying a light blue coat over his arm when he comes back. ]

H-hey! I was not rusty! [Just in time for her to huff indignantly at him!]

[stargathering]

[ And for him to really smile at her! He sort of missed this side of her. ] So it was expected, huh?

[ He tossed the coat to her. It's plain, with just a zipper down the front and a couple of pockets, and it's lined to be warm, but it's a pretty light coat. ]

[blastiafreak]

[And it makes her sputter some more at him as she shoves the coat aside (as nice as it seems).] Well--I--i-it's not like I expected it, either!

[stargathering]

[ ...Well, since she's doing that, he'll just sit down beside her, grinning a little more. ] I didn't know things like that just happened to genius mages. Do you need to start over when you go back again?

[blastiafreak]

Of course anything can happen when you're experimenting with something new! [Face red, she pouts and rests her hands on her knees.] And...yeah, I will. I already perfected it here, but...

[stargathering]

[ His expression softens. ] ...I guess there's a downside to forgetting, too...

[blastiafreak]

[Seeing that, some of her ire fades and she glances down at her hands.] I guess...But it's not like it matters after you've forgotten.

[stargathering]

Yeah... At that point, you can't even be bitter about redoing anything because everything is new again.

[ Just kicking his feel off the edge of the couch as he leans back. ]

[blastiafreak]

Like nothing ever happened...so there's nothing to miss.

[It feels utterly bizarre to her now, in retrospect. After a moment, she shifts into a more comfortable position on the couch, and leans back too.]

[stargathering]

[ He just hums in response. For the moment, he's glad they're staying here. ]

...It's sort of nice like that, I guess. It's what I thought it'd be like.

[blastiafreak]

[She doesn't really feel like moving yet, anyway.]

I don't know...I mean, I knew it would have to be sort of like that, but...

I really didn't remember a thing.

[stargathering]

Nothing even felt strange?

[ Like how Katara and Connell talked about remembering in their hearts... But Rita's not really the type to say that sort of thing, and until recently, he thought it was just an overly sentimental platitude. It's a nice thought, though... ]

[blastiafreak]

No, nothing. There was nothing different.

[She knew it had to be that way, but still...Even Rita has to admit it's kind of depressing.]

[stargathering]

[ It really is depressing. He can't even pretend it's a relief. ]

... At least you remembered everything when you came back. It's probably easier to go back to how things were when you're not bothered by old memories.

[blastiafreak]

I know. That's probably the whole point.

[There's a decidedly moody tone to her voice when she thinks about it, too.]

[stargathering]

...

[ He shifts closer beside her. ]

I would be worse if we did remember... We'd have more regrets.

[blastiafreak]

[She glances at him out of the corner of her eye, and isn't really sure how to answer. She'd claim that she wouldn't have any regrets, but she sort of already has them, doesn't she?]

So you think it's better if we think that none of this ever existed?

[stargathering]

[ His voice is steady, lacking any sense of doubt. ]

That's right. This place isn't like another time or a different town - it doesn't exist, and remembering it when we leave will just be... [ painful ] annoying.

[blastiafreak]

[Rita sinks back into the cushions of the couch, her mouth set in a grim line and her voice almost resentful.]

Well, I don't like it.

[stargathering]

[ While he doesn't really either, the more he thinks of it, the more he thinks he'd just be more miserable back home if he remembered his time in the City. ]

Why?

[blastiafreak]

[She'd probably be miserable, too. The idea that, someday, nothing they do here will have any importance or meaning and might as well have never existed in the first place--she hates that. Their friendship will have been nothing...

But rather than voicing all her thoughts, she moodily mutters a simple-] It's just stupid.

[stargathering]

[ The fact she didn't even remember him a little is sad enough to him. Usually forgetting is a relief, but it doesn't feel like one now. Part of him wants to hold onto the friendships and memories no matter what.

Sighing, he rolls his head onto the back of the couch. ] If you say so...
