You should try both. You'll probably understand the spells better after you attach it, and then you can work on your blastia... [ As far as he's concerned, the weekend proved they don't have the time to spare. ]

[She hasn't really been thinking about the earth rune, really. The wind rune has two things she'd like. Tyr's suggestion doesn't sound bad, either.]

That's not a bad idea. I've been studying the runes, but I haven't tried the spells for myself yet. And on the weekend...

I was thinking that I need a spell to stop someone without hurting them. [Since all of her spells are offensive--this is becoming a bit of a worry to her, along with being unable to heal.]

Mm... [ Given how often friends end up going insane and needing to be stopped, he agrees that a spell like that would be a necessity. ] Maybe you could find one like you used on Eagle, but that has a longer duration... When you put people to sleep with the wind rune, they're only in a light sleep...

It could become stronger if you practice it, though.

[They didn't have much choice against Eagle, but Rita doesn't know how she would've stopped Euphie if they'd been able to get to her in time.]

Of course I could improve it. [Rita has no doubt about that, even if she's still working it out.] But just how light? Like, they wouldn't wake up if you tried to tie them up or something like that, right?

[ Tyr isn't sure what they'd do for Euphie, either; he wouldn't want to hurt someone who's clearly not a match for either of them. ]

I don't know. I've never tried to do that before... But they wake up if they're hit. [ Which should make sense... But magic sleep would be great if they were unconscious. ] You could run some tests on that to see, too.

[And even Eagle she was sort of reluctant to use her more powerful spells against, but Euphie...]

[If they're hit doesn't sound bad, as long as they don't wake up by hitting the ground, but--wait. Rita raises a skeptic eyebrow to Tyr.] ...You want me to test if I can wake someone up by hitting them?

[ Rita is a better person than Tyr... ]

No. [ That couldn't have been a serious question. ] You should test how heavily the spell makes them sleep by...trying to move them or tie them. That's what you'll want to do after they're asleep, right?

[Or Tyr's tougher than she is...]

[It was totally serious. And Rita would do it to some people. Still, as good of a stress relief that could be, this is more logical...maybe.] Well, yeah...I wouldn't want them to wake up while I'm doing that, but it'd be better if it was stronger, or just longer-lasting. You know, until the end of the curse.

[ A little of both, maybe... ]

Yeah... That would be the best result, if you could manage just that... [ And she's the only one other than Luc that he could imagine being able to. ] If you're going to get that good, though, you'll need to attach it soon and get used to it first.

[Somewhere in between.]

[Tyr's right, of course. She still can't afford to buy a water rune, but the wind rune has healing abilities, and she can afford to attach it.] Yeah...I'll go back to that shop and do it. And I've started working on a formula for my blastia.

[After a moment, she continues.] Once I get it worked out, I'll show you how to do it.

[ Her mentioning the formula again makes him curious. Of course he can wait to see it, but that doesn't change the fact he wants to know more before that. ] What type of formula is it, exactly?

For a sleeping spell, or something like that. [Of course she doesn't mind explaining to him. If they can both do it, it might make upcoming curses easier.]

Oh... [ It's around now he realises she probably just wants the wind rune for its healing abilities. If she could make a formula stronger than Wind of Sleep, though, that would be amazingly helpful. ] Is that what you were working on before? Just now.

[She's sure she could make a formula before long--an improved one at that--but attaching the rune in the meantime isn't a bad idea at all, especially for the healing ability.] Yeah, that's right. It's a bit trickier than elemental spells...Offensive ones, I mean.

I didn't know they were that involved... Is that why you don't have many spells like it? [ He guesses. Aside from the one that restrained Eagle and the shield she created, he hasn't seen her use supporting magic. ]

It's not that I don't have any just because they're difficult or something. [There's other reasons...Like she always preferred hurting her enemies and she couldn't be bothered to come up with anything else when they worked just fine...until now.] Anyway, they're just different. And you actually have to worry about what you do to the target.

Right... [ He nods. If she's just killing monsters most of the time, there's only one thing she wouldn't want a spell to do. ]

... If they're more difficult, though, would...It might take a while for me to learn, wouldn't it?

Well...I don't really know for sure. You might pick it up once you see it, since you did pretty well with the other artes. [Recognizing a formula is generally easier than creating one from scratch, even if it's almost second nature to Rita. But the last thing she wants to do is put a cursed friend into a coma because the formula was too strong.]

[ This is why Tyr thinks a simple knock-out spell would be best... He's relieved that she thinks he might be fine with it, even if he still thinks it being different might trip him up. ] I guess we'll see how I do with it when you're done writing it, then...

[She has confidence it'll be okay, as far as getting the hang of the spell is concerned. It's other things she's not so confident about.] Yeah...I'll finish it up soon--as soon as possible. We don't know what might happen. If...It'll probably be as bad as last year...

... [ He looks down, unsure what to say. ] Probably...

...If something happens to me before you complete it... Just remember what I said before. [ And run away. ]

Huh? What... [Rita, on the other hand, looks up at him. What did he say before...? To leave him, wasn't it?

...She could never do that. So she shakes her head.] No. I...It won't take that long. I'll have it done by tomorrow.

[ He looks back up at her. ] By then? [ Could she really do that? It seemed incredible to him. ]

... Still... [ He wanted her to just take care of herself. ]

Of course. One formula is not going to get the best of me. [Even if she's up all night to finish it. There's no way she'd leave Tyr behind if he were cursed.] I mean, if one of us is--if anyone's cursed, we'll need them right away.

...I should've thought of it sooner.

With the way everything's been so far, it's easy to forget about those things... A lot of things get set aside.

[ He doesn't consider that she might stay up all night - if he did, he'd tell her to take her time to be careful - and he's sure that this time there likely isn't anything he can do to help with her work.
