[Here is one genius mage, seated at a table with books and tools strewn everywhere as always. In her hands is a shiny object that could be mistaken for a thick bracelet, if not for the intermittent light emitted by the inset gem and the holographic console above it. Rita taps several symbols on the console, and the gem pulses weakly before fading again. Although she sighs and shakes her head, there's not really much actual impatience behind it.]

Come on, old man. I know you can do better than that. Don't be so lazy...

[While she mutters, she continues typing and adjusting until the light becomes strong and steady, at which point she nods in satisfaction. Pride, even.]

See? You can do it when you want to. Okay, Arven, you'll be working hard from now on if you know what's good for you.

[If the blastia's name sounds similar to Raven, it's clearly just coincidence. Clearly.]

[If Rita's slightly dazed look and singed hair aren't enough of an indication, then the clouds of smoke in the background of the video ought to suggest that some sort of explosion just took place. This doesn't seem to have perturbed her--if anything, she's encouraged.]

All right! That was even better than I expected! My experiment to create a high-density stable mana derivative that can be activated with a catalyst--it was successful! Now I just need to transfer this method to a macroscale test...

...Oh, we might need a new table for the study. Someone put that on your shopping list.

[ooc: Don't worry, Rita's not actually cursed today!

...Or do worry.]
blastiafreak: (studying)
They sure like to throw us off once in a while with these curses that last longer than a day. I wasn't affected, so I could keep working, but...Why's everyone making such a big fuss over some lame school, anyway? The whole thing's pointless and a waste of time. As long as you know how to read, you can teach yourself anything.

[What's it like to study in a school, learn from a person, have classmates? No, really, she swears she's not even the tiniest bit curious. Seriously. After that valuable bit of input, she switches gears with a demand request.]

Hey, take a look at something for me. I've got some documents that were all changed into different languages as a...joke or something, but none of them are from my world so there's no way I can translate them all. If everyone here can read a page or two, I should at least be able to get most of it back to normal. Let me know if you recognize anything.

Details and notes. )

[ooc: Mun is off to work soonish, so apologies in advance for slow and/or late tags. T_T]

[The video feed is taking place in the study of the beach house, but if one views the timestamp in the corner, they'll realize this recording is from earlier today--11:31 am, to be exact.

As for the study itself, it looks like a tornado hit: Random books, papers, tools, and pieces of equipment are scattered everywhere (including but not limited to batteries, wires, light bulbs, screwdrivers, magnets, glass jars, pliers, a stun gun, and a half-eaten croissant--oh, that must have been breakfast).

Rita herself is approaching the device, which is standing on a table unnoticed. She rifles through the mess on the table, shoving several books to the floor...some of which might just look familiar to Leon. A few papers, a thermometer, and a glass rod are all dug out from the catastrophe, and Rita takes them to a semi-clear spot in the middle of the room. Her back is to the device, so it's hard to tell exactly what she's doing, but the sounds of tinkering can be heard in addition to the excited or frustrated noises she doesn't even realize she's making.

There is a skip in the feed and the timestamp now reads 1:18 pm. There are small flashes of light and little zaps coming from Rita's still-occupied spot on the floor. Once that stops, she tosses the stun gun to the side, then grabs the pliers and screwdriver. Her voice can now be heard softly.]

There we go. You're almost good as new, see? I told you I'd fix you right up--nothing to worry about. I'm not mad...you did the best you could. It's my fault for pushing you when you weren't up to it...There, doesn't that feel better?

[A person? A pet? Not exactly. Once Rita puts down the tools, she picks up a small piece of golden jewelry set with a red gem. Those from Terca Lumireis or to whom she's spoken about it will recognize it as her blastia. Not only that, but Rita is smiling warmly while she gives the surface a light pet.]

Yeah, I thought so. You look a lot better now. Ready for a little workout?

[Not bothering to move to somewhere more suited as a testing ground, Rita stands up, fastens the blastia around her neck, then starts casting a spell. Most of it is muffled aside from the final two words, Tractor Beam. Lightly glowing rings appear surrounding an approximately five-foot-wide area, rising up--and carrying all the junk on the floor within the circle into the air with them. It all climbs about six feet in the air, at which point the rings suddenly reverse direction and rapidly slam everything onto the floor. There is the sound of glass breaking and the video shakes slightly, but Rita doesn't seem to care--in fact, she's quite happy.]

All right! That's gotta be--what, double the radius I got the other day? Oh, now I need to check...

[And with that, the video finally ends. Anyone who's been in the study since then will find that she cleaned up the broken glass and the majority of the equipment, but most of the room is still a disaster.]
blastiafreak: (goggle power!)
Well, this might be useless if I'm just going to forget everything when I finally get to go home, but I don't feel like just wasting all this time. And I need something else to think about...

Anyone seeing this: I'm Rita Mordio, a mage and scholar. In the interest of research, I want to hear about you - your species, your home world, special powers or technology, things like that. The City might be a pain, but it's not often you get to talk to people from across whole universes.

...Come to think of it, doesn't it seem kind of weird that there's so many humans here? I actually would've thought that all these different worlds would have more diversity. Or maybe the City isn't taking as many other species for some strange reason...I'd like to know, anyway.

[OOC: ETA that although she really is genuinely curious about all this, she does have an ulterior motive--namely, discovering who might be a next possible target of the mysterious attacker going around. So just a heads-up in case you don't want her butting in on a plot or anything.]
