[Rita shuts her eyes and grits her teeth as she hears him finish the spell, bracing herself for the flames-

But the hands abruptly release the two of them, and the spell burns away the floor, leaving them to drop below.]

[ His spell shouldn't have been that strong - it wouldn't be that strong - but he guesses the floor wasn't normal. The flames seemed to vanish once they floor is gone, which thankfully mean for as rough their fall is, they don't have to worry about burning splinters of wood raining down on them.

Tyr groans and doesn't really want to look to see where they are. It doesn't feel like the floor they had just fallen from and there at least aren't any hands reclaiming them to try to tear them apart again.

...He still keeps his eyes closed and covers his head to be safe, though. ]

[Gasping for breath and heart pounding, Rita scrambles up. Her hands and knees sting, though she's not sure whether it's from the flames or the fall--and she can't see anything; it's pitch black.]

T-Tyr? Hey...[She gropes around for him. He's still there, right?]

[ He feels his cloak shift, and with the sound of Rita's voice, he comes back to his senses enough to sit up and take her hand (it feels enough like her hand, anyway...). ] I'm here- [ and he quickly adds- ] and I'm okay.

[ Aside from his head throbbing and being unable to see anything. The other pains don't really matter. ]

What about you?

[She'd scrambled closer once she felt his cloak, and now she quickly tightens her grip on his hand. Her voice is shaky, but she replies.]

I...I'm fine. I mean, we're alive...But where are we now?

[ He doesn't doubt that he has her now, and he shifts closer until his knees knock against hers. His reply comes almost as a grumble. ] I don't know...

[ It picks up as he continues, and he squeezes her hand a little. ] But we're okay, so...that's what matters.

[She's glad to have him close, but doesn't do anything more than squeeze his hand right back.]

W-we're probably stuck here until midnight...

[ He hums softly in agreement. He tries to keep his voice light and quiet to calm her, but there's an obvious note of anxiety in it. ] It's probably safer to just stay here when we can't see anything anyway...

[The curse is obviously working against them, and after that close call...She has to agree with him, as much as she hates giving up.] As long as nothing else can see us, either.

[ It doesn't feel like giving up to Tyr; they did everything they could.

He just hopes there's nothing else there... He wishes he could see her rather than just feeling her and hearing her. ] I don't think there's anything else down here... Something would have happened if there was...

[And their everything wasn't good enough. Even though they should know by now that they can't fight curses.]

What about those...those things that were all over us? They could be anywhere! [And just suggesting it gives her the creeps. Now they can't even see anything coming.]

[ Tyr isn't going to let that get him down just because, still, they're not dead...

Even though she can't see it, he shakes his head and shifts in front of her to hold her shoulder. ] We'd be able to feel them if they touched us, and we'll destroy them if they do.

[Not yet are Rita's thoughts. She jumps a bit at the touch of his hand, stifling her gasp when she realizes it's just Tyr.] I don't want them touching us again in the first place!

[ He rubs her shoulder a little, narrowing his eyes uncertainly. Part of the reason he touched her in the first place was so she'd know where both his hands were... ]

Maybe they won't. There's no point getting worked up about it now.

What do you mean, there's no point? [She raises her voice a bit, still anxious, but a bit more relieved than she might admit.]

[ He keeps his voice firm, like he would when he talks to Riou, but keeps stroking her shoulder. ] Worrying will just make you paranoid and think things are there when they're not. You'll think more clearly if you calm down.

What makes you think I'm not thinking clearly? [She sounds a bit more normal this time, more like her usual attitude.]

I meant in general... [ And he's relieved that she's not panicking. He lets his hand slip down to rest on her leg. ]

Is that really all you meant? [At least she knows it's his hand for certain this time. Still, she's a bit restless.] So...we're just going to wait here?

Yeah... [ For the most part at least. ] There's not much else we can do other than wait here... If we set a fire, it'd be easier for something to find us.

[He's right, of course, and she sighs.] ...I hate sitting around and waiting.

So do I... [ But the defeated tone in his voice means he's not going to do anything else. ]

It can't be too much longer, though...

Do you even know what time it is? [Because Rita's pretty sure she must have dropped her device sometime.]

[ He thinks he lost his staff, but his device should still be in his pocket. He shifts around and reaches into his pocket to pull it out. Feeling over the surface, he can feel the surface if cracked (maybe broken, but not enough to cut his gloves). He glances up at Rita as he tries to find the button. If they're going to be stuck here for who-knows-how-long, they should have some light. ]

Close your eyes.

Huh? What are you going to do? [She's stubborn for now; she doesn't like doing things without knowing why.]
